Find out what else we do

The 2022 local government elections are an opportunity for you to stand as a candidate and, if elected, have a say on how Greater Wellington carries out its responsibilities.

Nominations open on Friday 15 July 2022 and close at 12 noon on Friday 12 August 2022.

Pre-election Report

The next three years hold many changes and opportunities for Greater Wellington – the local elections are a chance for the community to shape that change.

Every election the Chief Executive produces a pre-election report to communicate these key areas of opportunity and change, and to encourage people to give their voice to these issues by voting or standing for Council.

The 2022 Pre-election Report identified four key areas of change and opportunity for Greater Wellington:

  • Delivering for our environment
  • How we partner with Mana Whenua
  • Action on climate change
  • Balancing affordability with community needs

As well as the interactive Pre-election Report, we’ve also created an accessible, printable PDF version of the document

All responses to requests made by publicly declared intending candidates or officially nominated candidates will be proactively released with the name of the requester published, and personal contact information redacted.
